Almost all of us must be well aware of the name Aleem Dar, the Pakistani umpire. A truly humble character on the field, Dar is considered one of the greatest umpires of World Cricket.
Many people might not know this, but the Pakistani umpire was once a cricketer himself. Aleem Dar used to play as an all-rounder in first class cricket. He was a moderate middle order batsman and a leg spin bowler. Although his playing career spanned for almost 10 years, Dar was never considered a player who could make it further than the first class scene.
After his retirement as a player, Aleem Dar started training as a match official, before finally making his ODI debut in 2000. An impressive start to his umpiring career earned him the recognition of the ICC which made him part of the ICC panel of umpires.
Dar, throughout his career, has been given some of the biggest cricket tournaments and matches to officiate. He was part of the 2003 World Cup, and made his umpiring debut in a test match in the same year. In 2004, Aleem Dar was promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC umpires, which is a massive honor or any official.
Since joining the elite panel, Dar has been regarded as one of the alltime greats along the likes of Simon Taufel and others like David Shepherd. Watch Video HERE!!!!
Aleem Dar, who is known to be a very silent and humble personality, has had his funny moments in cricket. He was appointed in an Ashes series between Australia and India. Watch how Aleem Dar, a former cricketer, takes an incredible looking catch as he slides his left hand from the back and joins it with his right to take a blinder.
