Xbox Hackers Have Managed To Dump NAND of Xbox One

It’s closing in on to being nearly a week since the Xbox One was officially launched by Microsoft. Facing a lot of hiccups and bumpy roads leading to the launch, Microsoft still managed to sell one million units to the customers within 24hours but keep in mind that it is a total of selling units in 13 key countries.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Piracy is a growing concern in the video games industry. With many accomplished hackers hacking consoles to run downloaded games. Microsoft’s previous console, the Xbox 360, was also not immune to piracy and featured hacking elements such as “JTAG” which allows the user to run downloaded games (whose data has been ripped off and uploaded on the internet for the platform) from the hard disk. Piracy was one of the main reasons why Microsoft tried pushing strict DRM policies such as online verification of the console once every 24hours to see if the console has been modified in any way and if it was then the console would be immediately banned.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
However, the backlash from the gaming community was so fierce that Microsoft had to retract its policies in order to stay in the game with its competitors. Apparently, everyone saw this coming. The hackers of the Xbox community have managed to dump Xbox One’s NAND data, yes the very own NAND data of the Xbox One.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Folks over at <a href="http://www.konsolen-junkies.de/" style="-webkit-transition: all 0.2s ease-out; color: #111111; transition: all 0.2s ease-out;" target="_blank">Konsolen – Junkies</a> (Console Junkies) revealed that the size of the NAND present on Xbox One is 4.9GB in size. It was also revealed that NAND can be dumped using Corona V2 using SD Card reader just as with the Xbox 360. However, to do so, the crystal or ‘quartz’ needs to be disabled. It was also mentioned that J-Runner ‘may not’ be used for dumping as it limits the size to 3.5GB on Corona. You can head over to Konsolen-Junkies to see the images. Do note that the NAND files contain drive info and serial number.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
So Xbox One’s own system NAND also comes on a SD Card like Xbox 360 Slim’s NAND?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Previously it was made known by a famous hacker ‘C4eva’, who dumped the data of Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Xbox One on the internet, that the discs can be read. This means that Xbox One is gaining attention from the hackers who are able to reach the first step with dumping the NAND. Since the hackers continue to tinkle with the Xbox One, the question is how long till they are able to hack it completely?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #494949; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 27px; margin-bottom: 20px;">
Stay tuned with us as we bring you more information as the story develops.</div>

The game is currently slated to be published by Square Enix and it is set to serve as a direct sequel to the 2013 smash hit action video game reboot, Tomb Raider.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Following the games somewhat confusing and slightly controversial announcement, the game has been scheduled for release at some time in the holiday season of 2015. The release has a time exclusivity window during which time the game will only be available for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox 360. Because of this, we can safely assume that the game will indeed be coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, we don’t however know the release window. The current estimate that’s popular amongst gamers is some time around March of 2016.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Once again, not much is known to be fact, but the game is expected to be available upon its release via digital download through the appropriate online stores and at retail.</div>
<div class="quick-jump" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; color: #e43737; font-family: FranklinGothicDemiRegular; font-size: 24px; font-stretch: normal; font-weight: bold; margin: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 10px; vertical-align: baseline;">

The development process has been kept rather quiet. All that we know for certain is that the game is apparently being actively developed, this is back up through statements made to the public and the holiday season 2015 release window.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Many gamers and industry specialists knew full well that a successor to the 2013 smash hit reboot game, Tomb Raider, was in development. The game had successfully rebooted a series that was once popular before suffering a precipitous drop in fame. After a failed second reboot which began with Tomb Raider Legend which hasn’t went down in video game history as being particularly stellar, despite warm reception and high review scores, the decision was made by Square Enix to reboot the series yet again and create another origin story.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
It was first made public knowledge that a sequel to the game was in development on August 1st of 2013 when the CEO of Square Enix Western, Phil Rogers, said that a “next generation Tomb Raider Sequel” is “well into development”, he said this in a blog post on the official company website. This was all it took to official confirm the games existence.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The official confirmation of the game, in a much more tangible sense, came during E3 of 2014.<br />On June 9th of 2014, Microsoft took to the stage to hose their E3 press conference as they usually do and ran a trailer that showed the crowd that Rise of the Tomb Raider was indeed very real. This was followed up by an official announcement press release.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The game caused a little bit of controversy and its fair share of confusion when it was announced to be coming exclusively to Xbox One and Xbox 360. Critics and gamers alike where taken aback by this revelation, Square Enix signing Tomb Raider to the Xbox One (which even then was still trailing in sales) just didn’t make sense from a financial point of view. It was later confirmed that the “exclusivity” was in actual fact a timed exclusivity window for the Xbox One and Xbox 360.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Thus far, we know of two core staff returning to work on Rise of the Tomb Raider. One being Camilla Luddington who will once again be stepping into the boots of Lara Croft. She has already said that voice acting and motion capturing for the game has already began to be captured. Also returning, is Rhianna Pratchett who served as the writer of the 2013 Tomb Raider Reboot.</div>
<h2 style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: FranklinGothicDemiRegular; font-size: 32px; font-weight: normal; margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Rise-of-the-Tomb-Raider.jpg" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; color: #e35c33; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="Rise of the Tomb Raider" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-211884" height="349" src="http://gamingbolt.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Rise-of-the-Tomb-Raider.jpg" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: none; display: block; margin: 5px auto; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: center; vertical-align: baseline;" width="620" /></a></div>

Just like with every other aspect of the game, we don’t know much about the plot at the minute, but looking back to the end of the 2013 reboot, Lara clearly gained some insight into the more secret parts of the world that many people (including herself) once fancied as nothing more than fictitious tales or legends.</div>
<div style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Lara also clearly planned on investigating more myths and stories following her escape from the Island. Where she goes and what happens in Rise of the Tomb raider is, at the minute, anyone’s guess.</div>
<h2 style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 0px none; font-family: FranklinGothicDemiRegular; font-size: 32px; font-weight: normal; margin: 0px 0px 15px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

There are no official gameplay details for Rise of the Tomb Raider, but we can guarantee with 99.99% accuracy that the game will be a third person action adventure video game with a heavy emphasis on platforming and combat, both close and ranged.</div>

From the trailer, players can expect the return of the bow (traditional or compound is anyone’s guess) and quite possibly the climbing pick that Lara used to great effect as both a tool and as a versatile weapon.</div>

At time of writing, there are no confirmed characters in the game besides Lara. Lara appeared at first to be suffering from PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome) in the reveal trailer, but it soon turns out to be that she is in fact restless and yearns to once again go out adventuring, putting her life on the line and testing her mettle against others.</div>

PS4’s Lack of Dedicated Audio Processor Compared To Xbox One Doesn’t Really Result In Limitations

<i>Though Microsoft has made Kinect an option for Xbox One consumers, no longer bundling the motion camera with the console, an extraordinary amount of work went into its design. This was further facilitated by the extensive improvements made to voice recognition and sound. In fact, the Xbox One features an on-board audio processor to help in this regard while the PS4 doesn’t. But does that really result in limitations to the latter as a result?</i></div>

<i>GamingBolt had a chance to speak to Audiokinetic senior sales representative Mike Drummelsmith, which created the Wwise middleware. On being asked about the lack of an on-board audio processor for the PS4 and whether it resulted in limitations, Drummelsmith replied, “Not really. Having extra hardware is nice, since it makes some things ‘free’ from a performance standpoint. However, extra hardware can also add complexity into the mix that makes it more difficult to diagnose issues and maintain full control over your audio pipeline.</i></div>
