Contrary to past rumours, Apple has reiterated that it has no plans to make and release a budget iPhone
Apple has told anyone still hoping for a budget-friendly iPhone that the company has no plans for a cheap smartphone model, and probably never will.
Product marketing executive Greg Joswiak broke the news yesterday at the Code/Mobile conference, saying that Apple has no interest in the budget market and will instead continue to make and release the high-end products that it has become known for.
“We were talking about some of the mistakes Apple made in the ‘90s, and some of it was trying to do things like making cheap products that were chasing market share instead of chasing a better experience," he sais. "You make that mistake once in your life, you’re not going to make it twice.”
It has been rumoured in the past that Apple was planning to release a cheaper iPhone, but the closest users have gotten is a cheaper iPhone 5c when compared to the concurrently-released iPhone 5s.
Android currently rules in the low-end devices market, but it seems that Apple is content with its position and is unwilling to go into battle with the rival company in that area.
“Our goal is to make the best products with the best experience,” Joswiak continued.
“We believe that if we make a better product and a better experience, that there will always be a healthy market for that. And a healthy market doesn’t mean we have to be market-share leader.”
